Northern Peru Cultural & Archaeological Program – 4 Days
August 9 – Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum & Túcume Archaeological Complex
Your journey begins with a visit to the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, widely regarded as one of the finest museums in Latin America. Here, you will admire the remarkable treasures of the Lord of Sipán, including exquisite gold, silver, and precious stone artifacts that reveal the sophistication of the Moche civilization. The tour continues to the Túcume Archaeological Complex, also known as the Valley of the Pyramids, home to more than twenty adobe pyramids built by the Lambayeque culture and later occupied by the Chimú and the Incas.
August 10 – Pomac Historical Forest & Community Experience
Today’s excursion combines nature, archaeology, and cultural immersion. Explore the Pomac Historical Forest, one of Peru’s most important protected natural areas, featuring the world’s largest tropical dry forest and numerous ancient pyramids hidden within its landscape. The experience continues with a visit to a local community, where you will learn about traditional weaving techniques using naturally colored native cotton. The day concludes with a homemade lunch prepared by local families, offering a genuine taste of the region’s hospitality and culinary traditions.
August 11 – El Brujo Archaeological Complex, Cao Museum & Private Transfer to Trujillo
Depart Chiclayo in a private vehicle for Trujillo, stopping along the way to visit the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, one of the most significant ceremonial centers of the ancient Moche civilization. Discover the fascinating story of the Lady of Cao, the first known female ruler of ancient Peru, whose discovery transformed our understanding of women’s leadership in pre-Columbian societies. The visit also includes the Cao Museum, where the site’s most remarkable archaeological discoveries are beautifully displayed, before continuing to Trujillo or Huanchaco.
August 12 – Huacas of the Sun and the Moon & Chan Chan
The final day is dedicated to exploring two of Northern Peru’s most iconic archaeological sites. Begin with the Huacas of the Sun and the Moon, the former political and ceremonial center of the Moche civilization, renowned for its beautifully preserved polychrome murals and impressive adobe architecture. Continue to Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the Americas and the former capital of the Chimú Kingdom. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chan Chan’s ceremonial plazas, storerooms, and intricate relief decorations provide a fascinating insight into one of South America’s greatest pre-Columbian civilizations.
