Full North Peru Tour 2025

January 7

Private transfer to Chiclayo (approx. 4.30 hours drive) 

January 8

We head east of the city of Chiclayo. At the foot of the sacred hill we visit the Ventarrón Temple. This is the oldest temple in northern Peru. The oldest wall paintings in America have been found here, as well as evidence of the beginning of civilization in northern Peru. Then we go to Sipán-Huaca Rajada, the place where the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was discovered, where we visit the area of ​​the archaeological excavations.

P.M. we will visit the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán (closed on Mondays), an impressive museum where the gold and silver jewelry from the tomb of the Lord of Sipán and from the other tombs found in the archaeological complex are exhibited. 

January 9

We head northeast of Chiclayo towards Ferreñafe to the National Museum of Sicán, where the pieces found in the archaeological complex of Batan Grande are displayed, among which the Lord of the East Tomb stands out due to the strange position of his body when found and the wealth of jewels contained in his tomb. Next we visit Túcume, also known as the Valley of the Pyramids, in the complex 26 Huacas belonging to the Lambayeque culture have been built. We will visit its modern on-site museum and see its main temples.

Pm, we will visit the Witches’ Market. Chiclayo is a region where the belief in the Shamanistic world is very strong and the market has an area where herbs, amulets, budu dolls and other items used in shamanistic rites are sold. 

January 10

Private transfer to Chachapoyas (approx. 10 hours drive) 

January 11

We left for the town of Cruzpata. Here we registered and paid our entrance tickets and began the approximately 30-minute walk to the Karajía sarcophagi, a Chachapoya funerary pattern located on a rocky cliff.

These sarcophagi have served as a burial place for Chachapoya nobles.

Pm Quiocta Cave, one of the deepest caves and which was used to bury the Chachapoyas people. It has recently been illuminated and is a good place to see stalactites and stalagmites. 

January 12

Nature excursion, we leave for the community of Cocachimba from where we begin a walk of approximately 5 hours, round trip to the base of the second waterfall, during the walk we will enjoy the landscape and the typical vegetation of the high jungle. With luck we will have the opportunity to observe birds such as the Cock of the Rock, hummingbirds, we will also be able to observe butterflies, orchids, bromeliads, mosses and a great variety of flora and fauna that make this route an unforgettable experience.

Upon reaching the base of the waterfall you can enjoy a small natural lake where you can bathe or simply contemplate nature and marvel at the great spectacle of the waterfall.

Return to Cocachimba to enjoy our lunch, after which we return to the city of Chachapoyas. 

January 13

Cultural and archeological excursion, we will leave for the town of Nuevo Tingo where we will board the bus that will take us to the cable car station. After a twenty-minute trip over the Tingo River with an impressive view of the mountains, we will arrive at the La Malca station, we will visit the interpretation center where we will learn about the Chachapoyas Culture and the importance of Kuelap in the sacred geography of the place, then we will begin a walk to the archaeological complex of Kuelap. We will visit the inner part of the fortress for 45 minutes in which our guide will explain all the information about this important complex located on the top of the La Barreta mountain, a brief visit to the replica of a Chachapoyas circular house located on the outskirts of the fortress. Then we return to the La Malca station to take the cable car to the community of Nuevo Tingo to enjoy a delicious local lunch.

After lunch we begin our return to the city of Chachapoyas and on the way we stop at a natural viewpoint to see the Macro archaeological complex located on the other bank of the Utcubamba River; brief explanation, photos and return. 

January 14

Cultural and nature excursion. We leave for the community of San Bartolo from where we begin a one-hour walk to the mausoleums of Revash; embedded in the rocky outcrop of the mountain, these mausoleums are a group of buildings similar to houses with gabled roofs and decorated with Chachapoya iconography and cave paintings that were used for funerary purposes. The designs that decorate them represent human, animal and geometric figures. Next, we will move to the town of Leymebamba.

In the afternoon we visit the Centro Mallqui Museum, also known as the Museum of Mummies, which houses more than 2,500 archaeological pieces, including textiles, ceramics, wooden sculptures, pyrographed gourds, kipus and 119 mummies, as well as quipus recovered from the mausoleums of Laguna de los Cóndores. Overnight in Leymebamba. 

January 15

Private Transfer to Cajamarca (approx. 8 hours drive) 

January 16

We visit Cumbe Mayo, located at 3,500 m.a.s.l., an ancient pre-Inca sanctuary where rituals related to water and the mountain were performed.

We begin our tour in the Plaza de Cajamarca and go up an unpaved road. On the way we stop at the Mirador Bella Vista from where we can observe the Cajamarca valley in all its splendor.

Upon arrival we observe a panoramic view of the Fraylones, rock formations in the shape of friars in procession, continuing towards the Sanctuary, which is a large rock shaped like a human head in which petroglyphs are found where its mouth would be. Then we will continue with a short walk that will take us to a place of Ichu and rock formations called the “Stone Forest” where we will find ceremonial altars, sacrificial stones and the Cumbe Mayo aqueduct, a great work of hydraulic engineering that is decorated with petroglyphs that are difficult to interpret.

Pm We continue with the visit to the Otuzco necropolis, commonly called Ventanillas de Otuzco, a burial place of the Cajamarca culture. These are individual or collective tombs excavated in volcanic rock on the mountain cliff.

Cajamarca City Tour: We will visit the Plaza de Armas, a historic place where Francisco Pizarro took the Inca Atahualpa prisoner, beginning the conquest of the Tahuantinsuyo, then we will walk around the square to admire the Church of Santa Catalina de Alejandría (Cathedral), San Francisco Church. We will continue our visit with El Cuarto del Rescate where the Inca Atahualpa offered to fill two rooms with silver and one with gold for his freedom, we will continue towards the religious complex Belén where we will tour its church, the Colonial Hospital for Men and Women (Archaeological Museum and Ethnographic Museum).
